Marc Campbell, CFP®

Co-Founder Advisor CEO Santa Monica, CA

We know what it costs to lead.

I've worked with executives long enough to know that the complexity doesn't stop at the office door. Stock options, deferred compensation, board responsibilities, succession — these aren't just financial decisions, they're life decisions. My practice exists to make sure the people running organizations have someone running point on the financial side so nothing falls through the cracks.

Your compensation is an asset.

Most advisors treat it like income.

Executive Compensation Planning

Understand the full value of your compensation package and build a strategy around base, bonus, equity, and benefits working together.

Equity & Stock Option Strategy

Navigate the timing, tax implications, and concentration risk of your equity so you're making informed decisions before the window closes.

Deferred Compensation

Evaluate your deferred comp plan within the context of your full financial picture, including timing, tax exposure, and distribution strategy.

Executive Tax Strategy

Coordinate across compensation, equity events, deferred income, and business interests to reduce your overall tax burden — not just this year, but across your career and into retirement.

Leadership transitions are personal, not just professional.

Plan for both.

Business Succession Planning

Whether you're passing the business on or stepping away entirely, build a plan that protects your legacy and your next chapter.

Concentrated Position Management

Reduce risk in a single stock or asset without triggering unnecessary taxes — on your timeline and aligned with your goals.

Liquidity Event Planning

Prepare for the financial complexity that comes before, during, and after a major liquidity event so you're making decisions with a clear plan in place.

Risk Management

Review liability exposures, key person coverage, and personal insurance so your financial life is protected.

Plan for retirement now.

Have fun along the way.

Retirement Income Planning

Design a sustainable withdrawal strategy that supports your lifestyle and adapts to markets and taxes.

Portfolio Management

Manage a diversified portfolio with ongoing rebalancing, monitoring, and risk controls.

Charitable Giving & Gifting Strategy

Build a giving plan that aligns with your values, reduces your taxable estate, and makes an impact on your terms.

Business Owner Estate Planning

Structure the transfer of business interests, coordinate buy-sell agreements, and align your personal estate with your company's future so wealth moves on your terms.

Life Strategyfor more than wealth

Life Strategy™ is our proprietary framework for cultivating a more intentional life. It incorporates five key dimensions — Money, Career, Health, Relationships, and Fun. These are your personal five oceans.

Working with Five Ocean Advisors has been game changing for my family and me. As an entrepreneur & founder, I rely on coaches and mentors to guide me. Working with Chris and his team, I’ve received incredible guidance on investment strategy, spending buckets, legacy planning, and so much more. It’s been almost 10 years since we started working together and I’m excited for the next decades continuing the journey. My family and I are leagues ahead of when we started financially and are gearing toward financial freedom. Thank you Five Oceans for all that you do.”

Meet Marc

I’m a deeply reflective person, and I love distilling complexity into easy-to-digest frameworks that drive strategic decision making.

For example, I view life through this lens: we all have resources (Money + Time + Attention) and we all have ideas about what we want our lives to look and feel like.

But unfortunately, in an increasingly complex world, protecting and growing our resources and clarifying what we truly want out of life are often crowded out by busy schedules and countless distractions, all competing for our precious attention.

My superpower is keeping people laser-focused on answering these three questions:

  • How do I thoughtfully protect and grow my resources (Money + Time + Attention)?
  • What do I want my life to look and feel like?
  • Am I allocating my resources in alignment with what matters most?

We utilize this framework at Five Oceans to empower people to live more intentional lives. And helping people thoughtfully navigate this path is one of my life’s greatest passions and joys.

In terms of my background, I grew up in Rochester, New York, and studied psychology at Hamilton College, where I was also captain of the men’s soccer team.

My first job out of college was in the Private Client Group at JP Morgan in New York City. After four years there I moved to Los Angeles to get my MBA from UCLA Anderson, where I was also Student Body President.

Along the way I spent five years at Dimensional Fund Advisors, and six years at TCI Wealth Advisors, a $4 billion financial advisory firm, where I was Chairman of the Board.

I left to found Five Oceans with my dear friend Chris Girbés in 2020. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and we feel like the fun here is just beginning.

I also have a background in the world of comedy. Though I’ve now “hung up the microphone,” I used to regularly perform stand-up and improv comedy in NYC.  I also founded what is now The Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica, California.

I live in Santa Monica with my wife, Ali, and our two kids, Cooper and Hannah Grace.  I love hanging out with my family, eating good food, hiking in the mountains, and laughing as much as possible (oftentimes at myself!).

Lastly, if you ever need a conversation starter with me, feel free to ask about any of the following topics 😀

  • The time I pretended to pee my pants on stage
  • The reason I never ran the NYC Marathon
  • My first entrepreneurial endeavor
